Lindau and the Black Forest

As we left Rothenburg we headed south to Lake Bodensee (aka Lake Constance or Lake Konstanz) with a stop to see the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. This is not an old castle-it was built in the 19th century by Mad King Ludwig and was supposedly used as a model for Disney's Cinderella Castle. We had no intention of joining the throngs of tourists paying to see the interior. Instead we hiked up the mountain for stunning views of the exterior and also of Ludwig's father's nearby castle and mountain lakes.

Then on to the old town of Lindau. The next day we biked along the shores of the lake and into Austria.

Yesterday we traveled through the Black Forest to the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. I was a little disappointed in the Black Forest--it wasn't particularly "black," it looked more like a pine forest in the US! We stopped in Freiburg, the largest town in the region. To my disappoimtment, I could not find a piece of Schwarzwaldwer Torte anywhere :(
